Mary Roma – (Mom)
Founder
Mary was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. That is where she first met and wed her husband Stephen. Mary spent the 1970’s and 1980’s raising their two sons (Stephen Jr. and Michael) in New Jersey – they first lived in Howell, then Marlboro, and finally in Point Pleasant. Mary owned & operated a few small businesses during that time, but her main focus was being there to raise her two boys. As soon as their youngest son Michael entered high school, Mary knew it was time for her to follow her dream of opening a friendly and fun business that could contribute something sincerely special to the community.
WoW was the brainchild and vision that Mary had been dreaming of. She had been a member of numerous health clubs in the past, and she never really found one that made her feel comfortable or helped her reach her goals. The clubs she had been a member of weren’t very clean, didn’t have any professionals on staff, had lots of broken equipment, didn’t offer any structured workouts, and were filled with bodybuilder-type members. These clubs certainly didn’t cater to the average person who was looking for a comfortable, caring, and fun environment they could reach their goals in – so Mary decided to do something about this. She decided to develop a facility that focused on the right combination of professional support, fun structured workouts, and relationships that she knew the average person wanted and desperately needed.
Mary opened the first WoW in Tinton Falls, New Jersey in 1992 and since then, the rest is Keeping Jersey Strong history. To this day, Mary’s vision and daily contributions continue to drive the evolution of WoW.
